San Fernando City, La Union (6 November) -- The Regional Development Council (RDC) of Region I recently awarded various stakeholders in different fields for signifying exemplary performances in terms of productivity and quality (P&Q) improvement for CY-2009 during the culminating ceremony of the National Quality and Productivity Improvement Month with the theme, 'Enhancing Quality and Productivity Towards Competitiveness'.
Special citations were given to the Department of Science and Technology – Region I, Lorma Colleges and Lorma Medical Center for being among the very few institutions in the region to have an International Standardization Organization (ISO) – certification.
Certificates of recognition as Star Productivity Performer were given to four district hospitals in La Union to include, Rosario District Hospital, Naguilian District Hospital, Bacnotan District Hospital and the Caba Medicare and Community Hospital.
Plaque of recognition as Star Plus (A+) Productivity Performer was given to Northern La Union Children and Maternity Hospital in Balaoan, La Union while the La Union Medical Center situated in Agoo, La Union received plaque of recognition as the Most Advanced in P&Q Scorecard among the district hospitals in La Union.
For the regional line agency category, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) – Region I garnered the most Advanced in P&Q with A- distinction.
NEDA-Region I Director Leonardo Quitos, Jr. said during his welcome remarks that there is a need to further the region's productivity and quality initiatives in the face of socio-economic and environmental adversities that seem to hinder the region's journey towards global competitiveness.
The event was simultaneously used for the signing of the Resolution approving the Updated Medium Term Regional Action Agenda on Productivity (MTRAAP) for CY 2010-2015, the region's action plan to achieve global competitiveness through higher productivity levels in the region's agriculture, industry, and services sectors which was earlier presented and approved by the Economic Development Sectoral Committee (EDSeCom) and Development and Finance Committee (DEVAD SeCom) of the RDC.
