LORMA YMCA administers LU Academic Olympics

SCHOOLS ALL OVER LA UNION GATHERED at Lorma Colleges, Carlatan Campus for the annual YMCA of La Union Provincial Olympics on October 18, 2013.

Young Men’s Christian Association culminates the event with the theme “Youth empowerment through change agents” which aims to develop the minds, bodies and spirits of the Filipino youth.

The competition was participated by students from elementary, high school and college levels who competed in different academic contests such as extemporaneous speaking, oration, quiz bee, essay writing, singing, dancing and drawing.

Lorma Grade School topped the overall ranks on the elementary level followed by Cantoria Elementary School and Union Christian College. Christ the King College won first place on the high school category, while Lorma Special Science High School came in second and St. Mary’s Academy placed third.

“This event is a way of endorsing the school and maximizing the facilities of Lorma Colleges for what may become as future students of this institution,” states Engr. Andrew Rimando, event organizer and YMCA Adviser of Lorma Colleges.

The different contests were held in distinct areas all over the campus. Lorma student volunteers and YMCA officers facilitated and organized the different contests that were judged by selected faculty and staff of Lorma Colleges.

“The preparation was tiring but I knew all the efforts were worth it upon seeing the success of the activity,” Bebelyn Velasco shared in conclusion to the event.

The champions in each of the categories will represent the province of La Union in the North Luzon Academic Olympics and in the national level of the competition.
